Artist Bio

Vic Sadot has performed with his bands and acoustic arrangements throughout Delaware for more than 25 years. His acts are engaging presentations that reflect his love of Cajun/Zydeco and American roots music. Sadot is largely, as he likes to say, “community taught.” It was his interest in the French language that led him to Cajun/Zydeco music, to the area known as “Acadiana” in southern Louisiana, and to the study of Cajun French. He also attended the Augusta Heritage Center in West Virginia for three summers of classes with expert folk musicians.

Sadot’s Planète Folle band puts on a lively show of traditional Cajun/ Zydeco music and New Orleans R&B. Their repertoire consists of popular songs of southern Louisiana by artists such as Clifton Chenier, Zachary Richard, and the Balfa Brothers. Planète Folle is one of the few bands outside Louisiana that uses authentic old-style Cajun French. The band has performed at Grand Opera galas, WXPN’s Kids Corner, the Delaware and Baltimore Museums of Art, and numerous community events. Planète Folle consists of 5–8 musicians, with Vic Sadot on vocals, acoustic guitar, and 10-button accordion, and others on piano accordion, electric guitar, bass, and drums. Saxophone, fiddle, and frottoir (vest washboard) players can be added if given enough advance notice.

Vic Sadot’s Crazy Planet band plays original folk, rock, and blues with sounds similar to Steve Earle, Bob Dylan, and Arlo Guthrie. Crazy Planet has 4–7 musicians: Vic Sadot on vocals, acoustic guitar, and 10-button accordion, and others on electric guitar, bass, and drums. Saxophone and fiddle players can be added.

Vic Sadot’s “Songs of the Seasons” show consists of original, acoustic song-poems about natural areas worthy of preservation. Sadot plays guitar and sings about local wild and scenic areas, complementing the mix and mood with original love songs and lullabies. He performs solo or with a violin or piano accordion player.

Sadot’s “Cajun Kids” show provides an introduction to the history, musical instruments, and language of the Cajun and Creole people of Louisiana for small groups of day care or elementary school children. Instruments and musical timing are presented for the waltz, the two-step, and 4/4 beats. Children are given the opportunity to play the frottoir with spoons and to wear a frog costume and dance at the finale.

Vic Sadot’s “Broadside Balladeer: Topical Songs for Our Times” show is an acoustic guitar performance of original songs of freedom and struggle and story ballads in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, and Steve Earle. Sadot sings his most popular song, “Broadside Balladeer,” a tribute to his friend and mentor, the late great Phil Ochs. Sadot performs solo or with a violin or piano accordion player.
